An important part of the New York City personal injury law firm Jonathan C. Reiter Law Firm, PLLC, Deanna Mirro Altmann, R.N.C., is an independent legal nurse consultant in our office. She graduated New York University School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, she has a second Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies with Business Administration from St. John’s University. During her practicing nursing career, she worked as a women’s health staff nurse and per-diem nurse on ante-partum, labor and delivery, post-partum, newborn nursery units and medical surgical units with a patient population in geriatrics, orthopedics and neurosurgery. She actively maintains a certification in In-Patient Obstetrics through The National Certification Corporation. Deanna is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. She is a wife and mother to three boys and continues to do private duty nursing, and labor coaching.
Ms. Altmann assists the attorneys in meeting with new clients, screening new cases for merit, reviewing and analyzing medical records, and interpreting the notes of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to determine potential deviations from medical standards of care as well as proving causation of damages in medical malpractice and serious personal injury cases. She performs medical research and assists the attorneys in locating and interviewing qualified experts whose knowledge and experience is pertinent to the specific facts of each case. She will also help the attorneys in deposition preparation, preparing medical chronologies, timelines, coordinating independent medical examinations and preparing medical illustrations and demonstrative exhibits for use at trial.
Providing insight into medical malpractice and serious personal injury cases
Nurse Altmann assists the attorneys in the review and analysis of medical records to determine liability and causation of damages in medical malpractice and serious personal injury cases. She performs medical research and may assist the attorneys in locating qualified medical experts whose knowledge and experience is pertinent to the specific facts of each case. In addition Nurse Altmann may help the attorneys prepare chronologies, time lines, medical illustrations and other demonstrative exhibits for use at trial.
